Investors Taking Profits in Bitcoin, Ether — Market Talk

Investors appear to be taking profits in bitcoin and ether following any bouts of appreciation this month, IG analyst Chris Beauchamp says in a note. Given the weak performance of bitcoin and ether in recent months, this sell into strength move seems understandable, he says. However, a "weekly close back above the March/April 2025 lows could well see this reverse in a signal that momentum has shifted back in favor of the buyers." This week is busy with central bank decisions, corporate earnings and data but the longer term outlook for crypto is more dependent on developments in the Middle East conflict, he says. Bitcoin falls 0.4% to $77.966, LSEG data show. Ether drops 1.7% to $2,324. (renae.dyer@wsj.com)
